Peter G. Calabrese founded Calabrese Law Associates in 2012 and has served as its Managing Attorney ever since, building the firm from the ground up into a full-service Massachusetts practice with offices in Boston and Burlington. Over more than a decade, he has grown the firm’s team of attorneys across five practice groups — business law, construction law, real estate law, litigation, and investment law — and maintains an active appellate litigation docket.
As Managing Attorney, Peter is responsible not only for his own caseload but for the strategic direction of the firm: its growth from a single Boston office to a multi-location practice, its hiring and mentorship of associate attorneys, and its reputation for taking on complex, high-stakes matters that larger firms often decline and smaller firms can’t staff. Clients working with Peter get both a trial and appellate litigator and the person ultimately accountable for how the firm operates.
Background
Before founding Calabrese Law Associates, Peter practiced at a major Boston law firm, where he represented international investment banks in complex securities fraud and contract litigation — experience that continues to shape how he approaches high-stakes commercial disputes today. During law school, he clerked for the Honorable David D. Livingston and graduated at the top of his class. Earlier in his career, he served as a Legislative Counsel Assistant in the Massachusetts State Senate under then-Minority Leader Bruce E. Tarr, giving him firsthand experience with the legislative and regulatory processes that inform his administrative law practice today. He has been featured in Forbes, Fortune, and Boston Magazine, and contributes to Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE).
Peter’s litigation and counseling work centers on the disputes that most often threaten Massachusetts businesses, property owners, and construction industry participants:
– Construction disputes — representing owners, developers, general contractors, and subcontractors in construction defect claims, mechanic’s lien litigation, contract termination and default disputes, and licensing and permitting matters.
– Real estate and condominium disputes — boundary line and easement disputes, private and public nuisance claims, condominium association and unit owner disputes, and foreclosure-related litigation.
– Business and commercial litigation — contract disputes, business dissolution and partnership breakups, and disputes arising from business formation and governance.
– Appellate and administrative litigation — appeals before the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court, and challenges to administrative and regulatory agency decisions.
He has litigated matters in the various Federal Courts, Connecticut and Massachusetts State Courts, including the Massachusetts Superior Court, Land Court, Massachusetts Appeals Court, Appellate Division, and has represented clients ranging from individual property owners and condominium associations to general contractors and closely held businesses. Over more than a decade of practice, Peter has successfully represented clients across every one of these practice areas.
